Group Litigation Orders (GLOs) are a specialised process which enables potentially thousands of claimants to bring a claim in one set of proceedings on similar terms.
Often however, there are smaller groups who have a common interest in bringing or defending a claim and want to work together but it is not a situation where a GLO would be appropriate.
Representation as a group in these cases is still possible but it requires experience and knowledge of the issues that can arise.
Colman Coyle have good experience in this field and examples of cases where they have acted include claims by investors in failed investment schemes, claims by groups of “off-plan purchasers” and negligence against their advisers, claims by lessees in relation to the construction of the properties in which they hold leases.
All of these cases need careful thought as to how the cases will be pursued and how they will be funded and issues such as who can make the necessary decisions when necessary.
At Colman Coyle we are well placed to advise groups of litigants both as to how to set up the group and how to deal with the ongoing litigation affecting them.
